I've recently begun (which much intrepidation and gnashing of teeth) a new website that, I think, with be a good landing place for people interested in hiring me for various writing projects. It will be simple and to the point - just my resume, and PDF files of clips (sample writing).
This blog has been fun and I love sharing butt...
...without further adieu...here is the my site: www.lynn-fisher.com
In any quest for change, I suppose it is normal to feel a little,oh I don't know...overwhelmed and blue (?). But I've brought myself to this place of transition and I'm determined to follow through. (That even sort of rhymes:-)
I need a more writer focused presence on the internet; or so everyone who hires or teaches these sort of things says, and I should divorce my personal blog from it. So off I go...into the unknown again, and in case you don't know, I hate that.
This brings me to this post. Have you ever gotten an omen this blatant? I had to get out of the house and took a 5 minute trip into downtown Anoka...looked up, and there it was...the massage businesson the corner and just changed their sign, and it made me laugh out loud. I love when these things happen when I have my camera. Anoka has gotten a lot of new stores lately, and thank god for 'em, I needed the break.
Millie P's Quilt Shop holds a riot of color and good friendly vibes and color always helps me feel better.
"Occasional" stores have gotten to be really big in small towns like this all over Minnesota..and The French Flea is a favorite of mine. They feature stark contrast furnishings with lovely turns and neutral accents. Just across the street is a well stocked bead store that never disappoints me as far as having any beady thing I could possibly need.
Then there's chocolate...is there anything more perfect than a Truffles and Tortes in a small river town? Who needs broccoli...really.
Reactions is a new design store in town next to Gently Spoken, a beautifully decorated personal gift book, card, and other things designed by Cheryl Karpen,
creator of "Eat your Peas". (You can click on the pics to make them bigger)
Then off to Antiques On Main where I spotted Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Monks. I don't think I've ever seen this version of the Russian Dolls...has anyone else?
What an AWESOME old saxophone. Purple velvet, and the possibility of latent greatness almost tempted me.
This is more my thing. Simplistic, sleek and all about tea, but we'll have to talk about that some other time. (I have as many tea pots as I have pens)
And radios...
...a freaking room full. These things are heavy too.
If technology can downsize a radio from the size of a Microwave to something that you can put in your pocket...I can make my own website, and change my blogs focus...right? Relax.
I never grew out of paper dolls, in fact they only grew more interesting. I began ripping through high fashion magazines, cutting out the most bizarre figure images and changing them in some way. For this image, I painted her face, added glasses, and cut her dress completely away, instead adding an image of the shadow of a tree on another page...the color was perfect. The background is gauche covered with crayon. The dark, austere background lent itself perfectly to the image of the moon on the following page, which
was also lifted from the shadow of the same tree, that I also used for the dress. I added crayon to accent the figure and the moon.
I've fallon deeply in like with FW acrylic inks and now use the white ink instead of the expensive white gel pens...although a few years ago you could not have persuaded me otherwise. What can I say, change is good.
Speaking of change, I have been going through a lot of it.
It all started when I fell while running to catch my bus. I spent a good deal of that day at Urgent care getting asphalt removed from my knees and hands and icing my very big shiner. I had fallen face first onto the parking lot, and it finally knocked some sense into me. I just can't continue doing everything.
I won't be blogging quite as much, I dissolved my journal group opting instead for a bigger, more metro centric journal group (that I don't run), I joined linked-in (and look me up if you belong), I'm looking at a web-site option...and I'm focusing on writing. I love the arts and use it in my journals, which I will continue to share, just not as often.
Does spring do this to you as well? I was doing so much, and then tried to add biking and hiking to this scenario...nope. Well, the black eye and skinned knees are almost gone and peace is in the valley...I can even see the moon from here. Have you gone through any big changes lately?
I'm a free-lance writer interested in a variety of subjects, but especially the wide spectrum of the arts.
